Traveling With Your Puppy

How to stop your puppy from getting car sick before the trip and for life!  Often puppies going on car trips will get motion sickness and that can be miserable for both the puppy and the parent!!  Not only that but it can become a learned response to travel.  We had a wonderful boarder collie that did just that!  If she saw us walking towards the car she would instantly start drooling.  Think back to high school and the teaching on Pavlov's dog experiment and the ringing of the bell.  Well, this is what I do.  Whenever I plan a trip (short or long) I give a 1/4 tablet of Dramamine (this for a 10lb puppy).  This settles the tummy and usually is enough to prevent any issues.  You will not have to do this his/her whole life just until he/she is 4 or 5 mos old.  By doing this every time you will not re-enforce the learned response that can happen when car driving.  Not all dogs get car sick but puppies can be a bit more susceptible.  And I don't know about you but I LOVE to take my pooches with me to hike, and camp and just live with our family!
