The following is a step by step "trick" to help your new puppy communicate with you. You are teaching him/her to tell you when they need to go outside. This is very simple and will work with all breeds but with our Giant Schnoodle puppies it works amazing! Hint: If you do not teach them how to communicate with you..they will still try to communicate but more than likely you will miss it and thereby miss the chance to let them out to do their business. The only thing that is better than this is a doggy door but this is very inexpensive and easy to do!
You will need to find bells from Hobby Lobby (or some such place) and string them like the picture to the left. Hang them dog nose level by the door you want puppy to use to go outside. When you bring your new puppy home you want him/her to be able to tell you to when they need to go outside so twice a day you need to do the following. You will need 2 people (one for the outside of the door and one for the inside) and some dog treats. The person on the inside helps the puppy ring the bell either with their paw or nose. When the puppy and helper ring the bells the person on the outside opens the door and calls puppy outside. When the puppy goes outside give a treat and much love! Then do the whole thing again. If you do this process twice a day in just a few days your new puppy will have figured out that when he rings the bell you will let him/her outside! You are well on your way to a a wonderfully pottie trained puppy! Let me know how it goes!
